6/24/08 email.....He Sounds Good!

Ok, well first of all, let’s just stick to the mission ties letters because it takes me forever to read the emails- haha. Last week, I didn’t get your letters until later that night. So I did get letters, but it was after I emailed you. I like when you do the ties, it is a lot easier and faster for me. Nana and Dad- thank you so much for the letters, they are so awesome. Nana the story that you sent me, made me and my comp cry. It was amazing! And dad, my companion IS related to your old Companion Elder Morley...... except its his great great grandpa.....DAD I knew you were old but I didn’t think you are that old dang!!! Haha! JK- must be a different Elder Morley. Everything is going good here, and the language is ok. I don’t know much, but last week I didn’t hand out a book a Mormon just a pass a long card. It was really good. I told him I was a missionary, and I gave him my testimony, and then gave him the card.... he just sat there and looked at me like I was stupid, then he just walked away....it was pretty funny! I don’t think he understood any of my Portuguese. I am so sorry for not giving you any details. I know I am really bad at that. Well, I have 5 roommates; 3 American and two Brazilian. I love the Brazilians they are so amazing.....they say Mormons are crazy, but you haven’t seen Brazilian Mormons- they are WAY crazy-haha! They are so friendly. Me and Elder Buzatto read in the Portuguese Book of Mormon every night just to help me. He is 23 three years old and is a lawyer. He denied a huge job offer just to come on a mission. He is an amazing guy, and they are all jokesters. I have a beautiful view from my window…. I can see lots and lots of buildings haha! Every night there are fireworks. Some nights they go all night and I cant sleep. They are right outside our window and they are so loud. I love walking around the hood -haha- and trying to interact with the people. This Friday we get to go pass out two book of Mormons and 10 pass a long cards in DOWN TOWN Sao Paulo, that’s going to be nuts! They say there are so many people you can barley walk! Being district leader is OK. I get in trouble if my district isn’t doing good, so I just keep everyone in line. This week my companion hurt is back really bad, to the point he couldn’t walk. (I thought my back was bad -haha) anyway, he asked if I would give him a blessing. So as my district and I laid our hands on his head, it was unbelievable the feeling that came over me. It was pretty much my first blessing I have given, and it was the coolest thing ever. I felt so calm and peaceful, it was like the words just came out of my mouth with out talking. I don’t even remember what I said. There are a lot of amazing things happening around me, tuff and extremely tuff. I thank you all for your support. Sunday I got a letter from the 1st councilor and it said, “Elder Reiss let me give you some advice. Have a clear conscience, forget the past and focus in the present. You are a disciple of God. It is His work you are doing.” It touched me so strong, I don’t know how he knew to say that, but it was exactly what I needed. Um, I got my first hair cut in the CTM it took the guy only 3 minutes to cut it- I was amazed...it looks OK, but not the best.
I can give the 1st lesson in Portuguese, I can pray, I can give a short lesson, and I can say a couple of other things. The language is so hard, but I am being really faithful and praying with everything I’ve got. This week is when we really dive into the language and stuff. You guys can start saying, EU TE AMO, this means I love you. Don’t worry, I don’t use it here....I CAN’T! - haha. On p-days I go to the temple every Tuesday, I write letters, and I walk around town. There is a place here just like Tucanos, but better! I am happy right now, and I am doing a lot better -for now anyways. Mom I am sure you are sitting at the computer right now just waiting for this, so I hope this was a good email for you- haha! I love you all, and I cant wait to hear from you some more.... but lets just do the mission ties its a lot better for me.
Zack- what’s up man? I miss you too. I miss picking on you and playing catch. You are a stud. That is good you are liking my phone and my bed...cause I don’t have a phone or a bed ...ok I do, but it doesn’t feel like my bed at home- haha! Zack be a good kid. Listen to Mom and Dad, be a good student, and start reading the Book of Mormon. That is one of my regrets is not reading the Book of Mormon every day. I love it. It has opened my eyes and has given me a strong testimony. I love you buddy, and have fun. Let me know how baseball is.
Oh ya, I want to know who won the playoffs and all about home- like the weather and the gas prices and all that good stuff. Dad let me know if you got that calling.
The weather here is starting to get cold, I actually have to have a blanket over me at night.

EU TE AMO!

Beck, This is Andrea (Ahleen) I linked to this blog through Micah's. I really can't believe Landon is even old enough to be on a mission! He turned out to be one handsome boy! I bet he broke a lot of hearts when he left :) Anyways I just wanted to say hello, and that you look really beautiful in the picture of you and Landon. You have not changed at all! And by the way, my brother-in-law went on this exact same mission, and he LOVED it! He has been home for a couple of years now, and can't wait till he gets to go back!! Take care, Andrea Ross
